Kristin Robbins, a Minnesota state legislator, announced her candidacy for Governor of Minnesota through a series of posts on August 20, 2025. In her initial announcement, Robbins criticized the current administration led by Governor Tim Walz and outlined her campaign priorities.

In her first post at 13:20 UTC, Robbins stated: "Today, I’m officially launching my campaign for Governor of Minnesota. Families are working harder than ever while Tim Walz makes life more difficult. I’m running to fight fraud, cut taxes, support our police, strengthen schools, and bring back common sense leadership."

Later that day at 15:28 UTC, she positioned herself as the leading challenger in the gubernatorial race by posting: "I’m the ONLY candidate that can beat Tim Walz. Learn how you can get involved here https://t.co/cH39RLxY4E"

At 17:16 UTC on August 20, Robbins addressed concerns about internal oversight within the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). She wrote: "Another example of fraud and failure of internal controls @MinnesotaDHS. Whistleblowers were ignored by DHS & @AGEllison. We can't stop fraud unless @GovTimWalz and his agencies are held accountable. Another reason we need a federal audit of DHS."

Robbins currently serves in the Minnesota House of Representatives and has been active in state politics. Her campaign launch comes as incumbent Governor Tim Walz prepares for re-election after previously winning office in 2018 and securing a second term in 2022.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services has faced previous scrutiny over its management practices and allegations regarding internal controls.
