Kristin Robbins, a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, has used her social media platform to raise concerns about legislative processes and state oversight in recent days.
On August 12, 2025, Robbins criticized the Legislature’s approach to University of Minnesota regent appointments. She stated, "This is what happens when the Legislature cedes its constitutional duties to the Exec branch. Democrats refused to call a joint convention, allowing @GovTimWalz to make Regent appointments to govern the U of M- now beholden to the Gov, not the people, just like the Met Council."
The following day, on August 13, Robbins addressed ongoing issues with oversight in state-run programs. She wrote, "I continue to push for accountability from DHS on the massive fraud in the Housing Stabilization Services program and other optional Medicaid services offered by the state. Next @MN_Fraud_Cmte hearing will be 9/17." The Department of Human Services (DHS) has faced scrutiny over reported fraud within its Housing Stabilization Services program.
On August 14, Robbins posted a brief reaction: "Unbelievable."
Robbins' remarks come amid ongoing debates in Minnesota regarding legislative authority over public institutions and accountability in state-administered services. In Minnesota, university regents are typically appointed through a joint convention of both houses of the Legislature; deviations from this process have prompted debate about executive power and legislative oversight. Additionally, there have been documented concerns about improper billing and fraudulent activity within certain Medicaid-funded programs administered by DHS.
