Kristin Robbins, a Minnesota state legislator, has used her social media platform to criticize Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) for their handling of alleged fraud cases. In a series of tweets posted between July 28 and July 30, 2025, Robbins directly addressed what she perceives as failures in oversight and accountability.
On July 28, Robbins stated: "DHS already had the ability to stop payment where there were credible allegations of fraud. They didn’t do it and @GovTimWalz has not held a single person accountable for the hundreds of millions in fraud under his watch."
The following day, on July 29, she reiterated her concerns about ongoing issues with accountability: "Truth@GovTimWalz failure to hold anyone accountable for fraud has allowed these schemes to flourish. The work of @MN_Fraud_Cmte to highlight these failures & our federal partners at @DMNnews & @FBIMinneapolis to prosecute these crimes is forcing agencies to finally crack down."
On July 30, Robbins referenced her own actions in seeking federal intervention: "My letter to @USDeptHHS requesting a federal audit of @MinnesotaDHS is what finally drove @GovTimWalz to belatedky try show he cares about fraud. He doesn’t. He has enabled fraud to flourish in MN - not holding a single person or agency accountable."
These statements come amid heightened scrutiny over the administration’s response to reported large-scale fraud within Minnesota's public assistance programs. State officials have faced criticism regarding their efforts—or lack thereof—to prevent fraudulent activities and recover lost funds.
In recent years, several high-profile investigations have examined mismanagement and abuse within state-run programs. Lawmakers such as Kristin Robbins have called for increased transparency and stronger enforcement measures from both state and federal authorities.
