Kristin Robbins, a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, publicly called for a federal audit of the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) in a series of posts on July 24, 2025. Robbins criticized the administration of Governor Tim Walz for its handling of alleged fraud within the department and advocated for immediate federal intervention.

In her first post on July 24, Robbins wrote: "The Dept of Human Services has had years to implement recommended internal controls & stop payments for credible fraud allegations. The @GovTimWalz Admin has failed taxpayers & vulnerable citizens & we can’t wait until next session to root it out. We need a federal audit."

Later that day, she reiterated her position and directly referenced both state and federal agencies: "Enough is enough. Time to get a federal @USDeptHHS audit of @MinnesotaDHS to stop the fraud and hold the Walz Admin accountable for at least $1 billion in fraud. I’m glad to see MN DHS “welcomes” this audit."

Robbins concluded with another statement emphasizing public expectations: "Minnesotans expect accountability when fraud occurs but instead the Walz-Flanagan Admin has allowed fraud to flourish. A federal audit is necessary to root out fraud and corruption." This final post again underscored her call for greater oversight.

Calls for increased scrutiny over Minnesota’s DHS have surfaced repeatedly in recent years following reports alleging significant financial mismanagement and fraudulent activities within certain state-funded programs. Lawmakers like Robbins have previously argued that insufficient internal controls contributed to these problems. The demand for a federal audit comes amid ongoing debates about transparency and fiscal responsibility in state government.

Governor Tim Walz’s administration, which includes Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, has faced criticism from some legislators regarding their response to these allegations. The issue has attracted attention from both state and federal authorities as discussions continue about potential reforms and oversight mechanisms.
