Orono Public School District secures 11th spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

Orono Public School District ranked 11th in the Hennepin County for test participation, with 1,497 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Orono Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 8.3% over the previous year.

Orono Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 73% in 2021-22 school year.

Eighth grade students stood out with 34% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, third grade students had the most room for improvement, with 24% not meeting the expected standards.

Orono Public School District encompasses schools within Hennepin County and has a main office in Long Lake.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
