Brooklyn Center Early College Academy issued the following announcement.
Planning the next step after high school can feel daunting. Jackie Hayden, college and career coordinator, stands front and center to ease that transition and assist in planning for
the years ahead.
“My goal is to get them to their dream job,” Hayden said.
In a year not affected by COVID-19, Hayden coordinates college and career visits and invites speakers to the school to discuss their college campus or career opportunity. This
year, the process looks slightly different with speaker Zoom sessions on Wednesdays, and increased outreach to help students discover the resources available to them with the
pandemic.
“One thing that hasn’t changed is students still have dreams,” Hayden said.
Hayden also meets with students one on one to talk about topics that range from their biggest goals to questions about their GPA. She provides mentorship and coaching by
discovering various pathways for students’ lives post-graduation, and the conversations don’t end at graduation.
“I also meet with alumni and help them figure things out after high school,” Hayden said.
Hayden is open to meet with all high school students for any questions they have and to help navigate their options based on their interests. Her piece of advice before meeting
with her - “You don’t have to have your stuff together to have a conversation. You can meet with me anytime, especially if you don’t know what you want.”
