City Of Champlin issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
The League of Minnesota Cities 2020 Mayor for a Day essay contest gives students an opportunity to write about what they would do, as mayor, to make their city better. The contest is open to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.
The League is a membership organization that includes more than 830 member cities in the state, including our City. The League chooses up to three contest winners each year, and winning students receive an award plaque and a check for $100 and will also have their essay published in Minnesota Cities magazine.
I will personally match the LMC prize and award a $100 – 1st prize and $50 – 2nd prize to two students from Champlin that we select as local essay winners. Champlin essay winners will also be recognized at a future City Council meeting and with a recognition announcement on the T.H. 169 billboard.
Parents and teachers will find the contest rules and entry form at www.lmc.org/mayorforaday. On that page, you will also find a link to information about what kind of work a Mayor does for her or his city.
The essay contest is a great activity that can be done as a homework assignment, or an afterschool activity. If you have questions about the contest, send an email to publicaffairs@lmc.org.
