Hindu Society Of Minnesota issued the following announcement on May 21.
Suresh Thekkot and his wife, Sangeetha Thekkot have been coming to the Maple Grove temple since its beginning. They are regular attendees, and often watch livestreams from home. They are also very involved in volunteering with the temple. The Thekkot family often serves food, and coordinates most Kerala cultural events that happen in HSMN. Their daughters, Malavika and Souparnika have also been volunteers and members of HYMN (the branch of the temple that plans events for teenagers).
Suresh recently coordinated the Kumbabeshekam, an experience he says showed him how deeply the people of HSMN care. Looking back, he says ”This day also created such a strong bond between all the people that worked the event, and whenever we cross paths it's always nice to reminisce on the crazy but successful weekend”.
When asked why their family dedicates so much of their time to the temple, they reply with three reasons: It is a place for Suresh and Sangeetha to share their culture with their children, a place to join and form a community, and a place to find calm.
So why do they believe the temple is so important? Suresh responds “the Temple serves as a hub for Hinduism and our culture. It allows us to express our faith, while also enlightening and spreading it to the future generations. I believe it is especially important to have in America because, without it, there would really be no public place that would bring everyone of the Hindu culture together”.
Thank you for your time, Thekkot Family!
