After the Hennepin County Board approved a $5.1 million deal, the staff of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation will now wear body cameras.
The money will also go toward upgrading Taser equipment and data storage, WCCO reports.
Several law enforcement agencies in the state already have body cameras, including Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and the Minneapolis and St. Paul Police Departments.
"To enhance accountability and public trust, @HennepinSheriff and the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation are rolling out body cameras to capture and preserve evidence, enhance public safety, and use in training," the city announced on Twitter.
The news agency reports that the staff members will begin wearing the body cameras later this year.
