City of Golden Valley issued the following announcement on Oct. 25. 

The Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) is participating in National Drug Take Back Day Sat, Oct 26 at the Golden Valley Public Safety Building. This year, the GVPD is also accepting vaping devices.

While Golden Valley’s drug take-back box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, more staff will be on hand to help out and answer questions during the Oct 26 event. The event aims to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of prescription drugs while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Accepted Items

• controlled substances
• over-the-counter medicines
• vitamins and supplements
• pet medicines
• vapes and vaping products (battery must be removed from device)

Not Accepted Items

• syringes
• sharps
• medical waste

Disposing of medications in the drop box keeps them out of the wrong hands. It also helps the environment, as water treatment plants can’t remove all prescription medications from wastewater.
