Your feedback matters! Minnesota Housing needs your input on how the Agency should prioritize the use of the remaining funds under the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
In 2021 and 2022, Minnesota Housing used these resources to fund RentHelpMN, providing roughly $450 million in housing assistance for renters behind on rent and utility payments. After receiving additional funds from the federal government, the Agency now has approximately $75 million left in Emergency Rental Assistance funds.
The $75 million remaining is not enough funding to reopen the RentHelpMN program. The program would quickly be inundated with far more requests than funds available.
Reopening RentHelpMN would create logistical challenges, such as prioritizing and managing applications that will not receive assistance, limiting program effectiveness. However, a rental assistance program that targets specific households and/or circumstances (such as eviction, homelessness or domestic violence) is an option.
