Plymouth City Council is set to discuss amendments to the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) section of the city’s zoning ordinance at its Aug. 8 meeting.

City code currently allows for ADUs only above attached or detached garages in Plymouth.

If approved, the amendments would allow ADUs on all single-family lots, including fully detached ADUs (standalone, such as a guest cottage or “tiny home”), ADUs within a home (a fully converted basement) or attached (mother-in-law suite). City code would not permit ADUs be used for short-term rentals.
