Brooklyn Center Community Schools issued the following announcement on March 28.

At Brooklyn Center Community Schools, we know that each of our students has dreams and aspirations. They have ideas and interests that fuel everything they do. Through this campaign called This Is My BC, we take a look at how BC helps students pursue their potential.

Senior Aiyonna Hunter is a few months away from graduating from BCCS’ Early College Academy (ECA), and is looking forward to the next steps in her future. For many years, Hunter has had graduation day as a huge personal and academic goal, and after a lot of hard work she is nearing the finish line.

For Hunter, ECA has been a safe space where teachers and classmates alike made her feel plugged in and supported. Her relationships with her teachers and school administration were a huge foundation of her future goals and post-grad plans. “Focusing on graduation has been a big fuel for me,” said Hunter. “I’m excited to move on from this stage of life and find out what is next for me.”

Some of Hunter’s favorite courses during her time at ECA have been math, art and English. Looking back on her year and reflecting on some fond memories, Hunter particularly enjoyed the Black History Month celebrations with guest speakers that took place at her campus. Hunter also enjoyed the spirit days and experiencing different food and music from different cultures.

In her personal life outside of school, Hunter enjoys spending time with her older sisters and cheering on her younger brothers at their basketball games. “I like enjoying the moment and exploring who I want to be in life,” said Hunter.

Hunter has worked hard in her schoolwork at ECA and is proud of the work she has accomplished, overcoming obstacles and hardships from time to time, but managing to stay the course and finish strong.
